Oak Creek Canyon Real Estate

   Highway 89's most panoramic path through Oak Creek Canyon is one of the most beautiful drives in America. This makes it Arizona's first scenic route. The main highway runs through the canyon, and offers views mainly looking up at the natural wonders as opposed to Grand Canyon where most people look down from the rim. Due to the high elevation Oak Creek Canyon's bottom is well watered and predominantly wooded. It is a primary escape spot for Arizona's desert dwellers during the summer as temperatures here are much cooler  than in the rest of the area. Towering trees line the beds of Oak Creek, a tributary of the Verde River flows along the bottom of the canyon. Its' natural springs are said to have healing powers. The water winds through mountain shadows to Sedona's famed red rock vistas.

   Four mild seasons support a canyon kaleidoscope of wildlife, foliage, and fun. Attractions include hiking, biking and trout fishing and be sure to stop at the Slide Rock State Park, a popular attraction with both young and old; and hike West Fork Trail, a good hike to do during the summer heat as it is screened and shaded by tall Pine, Sycamore and Oak Trees.

The first Anglo settler moved into Oak Creek Canyon in 1879. The early settlers were farmers and ranchers. Oak Creek Canyon was well-known for its apple orchards. In 1902, when the Sedona post office was established, there were 55 residents. In the mid-1950s, the first telephone directory listed 155 names. Parts of the Sedona area weren't electrified until the 1960s.
